If a person who has been committed to a state hospital for the mentally disordered escapes from the facility, the Department of Mental Health must notify law enforcement agencies.


Any person who has been committed is entitled to a writ of habeas corpus upon proper application. The medical history of the person as it appears in the clinical records shall be given into evidence and the person in charge of the state hospital where the person is committed shall testify as to the person's mental condition.


When receiving a patient, the person in charge of a state hospital, shall submit the patient to a thorough mental and physical examination and state the results on appropriate blank forms. The patient shall be required to submit to further periodic examinations of the patient's mental state, bodily condition, and medical treatment and the results should be recorded. If the patient dies or is discharged, the person in charge of the state hospital shall record the circumstances.
